Central to this “microgrid” platform powered by renewable energy is the work of Halifax’s Novonix, a battery technology company born out of Dr. Jeff Dahn’s Dalhousie University research group.
The company that owns Nova Scotia Power unveiled a new carbon-reduction strategy Tuesday that would see it phase out all coal by 2040 and achieve net-zero emissions by 2050.
Late last week, the company announced it will be donating an additional $125,000 to support mental health services in the region.

The fund was established earlier this week by the provincial government to help the Red Cross collect donations for families and communities affected by last weekend’s shooting.
NB Power had been buying the output from the 280-megawatt natural-gas fueled station through a long-term power purchase agreement with Emera Energy Inc., which was set to expire in 2021.
The funding will help develop and test technology in Barbados that could bring reliability, efficiency and flexibility to smart grid systems here at home.
