Former Hydro One CEO Takes Top Job At NS Power
HALIFAX — A veteran of Ontario’s electricity sector will be the new CEO of Nova Scotia Power.
NS Power’s parent company, Emera Inc., has announced that Peter Gregg will step into the roll in November.
Gregg will take over from interim CEO Rick Jenega, who has been running the company since May, when former CEO Wayne O’Connor left after seven months on the job.
“We are excited for Peter to join the Emera team,” Emera president and CEO Scott Balfour said in a news release. “Peter brings deep experience in the Canadian energy sector with a focus on energy efficiency, renewables and innovation.”
Gregg left Hydro One in 2014 after a decade at the utility, including 15 months as its COO at the end of his tenure.
Since then, he’s held a few president and CEO roles at Ontario energy companies, most recently with The Independent Electricity System Operator.
The IESO is an independent organization that oversees the operation of the bulk electricity system in Ontario.
In 2015 and 2016, Gregg received the Ontario Energy Association’s Leader of the Year Award.
In a LinkedIn post announcing his new role, Gregg said his move to NS Power “was not an easy decision” but that “the opportunity to join Nova Scotia Power, and the parent Emera group, in a leadership role was one I could not turn down.”
“I am excited to join and lead the transformational journey they have begun,” he said.
Gregg’s new tenure as CEO of NS Power comes on the heels of a “strategy renewal process” at Emera.
The company has been shaking up its leadership team and this year sold off some of its major assets, including its gas plants in New England and its subsidiary company, Emera Maine.
