Manager, Health, Safety & Environment — CAA Atlantic Limited

The Manager, Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) will report to the Vice President, People and Culture and will oversee all health, safety, and environment responsibilities at CAA Atlantic’s 7 locations across the 4 Atlantic Provinces. This position could be in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, or Saint John New Brunswick.
This exciting new position will be responsible for assessing, developing, and implementing in partnership with the existing team leading health, safety, and environment practices to ensure that our employees, members, customers and the public are safe and healthy. The Manager, HSE will work closely with leaders and their teams to ensure their unique safety needs are fully supported. This is a great opportunity for a dynamic HSE leader to put their stamp on an organization’s HSE practices and work with an incredibly collaborative group on our HSE strategy.
- Managing safety training, updating safety programs, developing, or improving upon safety policies and procedures
- Ensuring all employees have safety training relevant to their position and that it is up to date
- Maintaining database of employee safety training records
- Ensuring company safety programs and manuals are complete with all necessary SWPs/SJPs and are kept up to date with current legislation
- Ensuring safety manuals are accessible to staff and that staff are trained on any revisions, updates, or changes
- Performing site visits to facilities to review and report on hazards in the workplace and to implement solutions to improve potential areas of concern
- Ensure tools and equipment are being maintained to applicable safety standards
- Performing regular spot inspections and providing support to managers and employees at facilities and job sites
- Lead investigations of workplace incidents or near misses
- Managing WCB claims and processes
- Develop a safety program to assist our extensive contractor network
- Develop, establish, implement, and manage health and well-being related programs that promote optimum health and wellness of workforce. Managing Workers’ Compensation Board claims
As an experienced safety professional, you are someone who will proactively seek out ways to improve safety programs. You can operate autonomously but have a collaborative approach when working with staff. If you witness unsafe activities or violations, you can act assertively to rectify situations. You have a proven ability to identify new hazards and can give direction to site personnel accordingly.
Your education / experience include:
- 8+ years’ experience in a Health and Safety role
- 3+ years experience in a Health and Safety leadership role
- Training/education in Health and Safety, with certifications or designations such as CRSP, CHSC, and/or HSP
- Training / education in conducting ergonomic assessments for roles including those inside and outside of the office is an asset
- Experience in the development and execution of a wholistic wellness program is an asset
Skills / abilities include:
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- A self-starter with a drive to solve problems
- Great organizational skills, including time management
- Experienced in developing and managing programs such as workplace violence/bullying, Work-life balance, Impairment, Mental Health, Health Promotion, Health and Wellness Program development and Stress
- Ability to handle confidentiality and sensitive issues with tact and discretion
- Ability to travel extensively throughout the 4 Atlantic Provinces.
