Skipper Jacks Restaurant in Moncton is looking to expand its parking lot into an adjacent green space. Moncton city council members are worried about the project’s impact on the Rabbit Brook Trail, which runs through the property.

The move would allow larger sidewalk patios in order for downtown businesses to meet physical distancing rules, as well as a bi-directional bicycle lane.
It looks like Moncton city council could move forward with a plan to make a section of Main Street one-way, along with bike lanes, for the summer.
The by-law would require shop owners to identify their carts and implement a system to manage abandoned shopping carts. Shop owners could risk having to pay a $50 fee to get a cart back from the city if they fail to retrieve it within 24 hours.
Premier Blaine Higgs said the benefit will help bridge the gap between when people lose their employment or close their business and when they receive their federal benefit.
