Parking Lot Expansion Raises Environmental Concerns
MONCTON- A proposed restaurant and parking lot expansion has brought up environmental concerns at Moncton City Council.
Skipper Jacks Restaurant is looking to increase its parking lot onto the adjacent green space.
Moncton city council members are worried about the project’s impact on the Rabbit Brook Trail, which runs through the property.
City planner Bill Budd says the owner would have to reimburse the city for the cost of developing the trail.
Budd says the city also owes the owner parking space after expropriating a number of spots in 2008, for the eventual expansion of Mapleton road.
“As part of the process, the landowner would have to pay the city 30 thousand dollars which would have covered the city’s cost of building the trail and also release the city of obligation to provide replacement parking,” he says.
Council voted to move forward with the first reading of the proposal, hoping their concerns are addressed before a public meeting in August.
