Steele Buys Another Texas Dealership
DARTMOUTH — Dartmouth-based Steele Auto Group is tightening its grip on the Texas auto market as it adds another dealership to its network in the state.
The company says it has bought Volkswagen of Waco, in Waco, Texas. Steele has now bought nine dealerships in Texas in less than three years.
Steele president and COO Kim Daly said in a news release the company is “proud to be extending” its reach in Texas.
In an interview with Huddle in 2022, Daly said the region represents a significant opportunity for the company.
“Texas is the fastest-growing state in the United States right now and that San Antonio-Austin corridor, and everything within a couple of hours radius of it, is seeing explosive population growth and business investment growth,” she says.
“So, geographically, we’re diversifying ourselves by being down there. But, more importantly, the future there and the future economic growth and population growth is very appealing to us,” Daly said.

In 2021, Steel also made a significant move closer to home when it bought the Halifax-based electric vehicle dealership All EV Canada.
“We really like the expertise and passion that the All EV team has built and we see this coming together as an opportunity to accelerate the adoption of EVs in our markets,” Day said at the time.
Steel Auto Group employs about 2,200 people and has 55 new auto dealerships, 7 used auto dealerships, 3 Powerhouse Equipment stores, and 8 collision centers under its umbrella.
Although its focus appears to be south of the border right now, Daly insisted Steele is first and foremost an Atlantic Canadian company and will remain headquartered here for the foreseeable future.
