Rogers Bringing Fibre Op Internet To Moncton Region
MONCTON – Rogers Communications will bring Fibreoptic Internet to 314,000 homes and businesses in the Greater Moncton area.
The company announced plans on January 18 to spend $200-million to upgrade network infrastructure to 100 percent fibreoptic cable in the communities of Moncton, Dieppe, Riverview, and Shediac.
It also announced those upgrades will happen “in the coming months.”
According to information from Rogers, the upgrades will give residents access to faster internet service, with 1.5-gigabit-per-second upload and download speeds.
Rogers says fibre internet is more responsive and will support more devices and technologies, including gaming tech, smart home infrastructure, virtual support, and modern business operations.
Rogers Atlantic Region President Matt MacLellan cited the need for faster, more reliable service in the Moncton area as the reason for the upgrade, in a time when technology evolves and the world becomes more connected.
The telecom company is also investing nearly $3-million to expand its fibre network along Route 490 near McQuade and in Ludlow, and plans to spend $2.3-million to bring fibre to the Storeytown area and community of Doaktown.
