NB365: Mylène Dugas Of Village Historique Acadien
This is part of a year-long ‘Love for Local’ series called NB365: portraits of New Brunswick entrepreneurs, businesses and organizations. Huddle is a media partner with Love for Local. Today, we feature Mylène Dugas, Agente des relations publiques et marketing at Village Historique Acadien in Bertrand.
The Acadian Historical Village is a tourist complex consisting of a 2.2 km trail, lined with some 40 historical buildings, all of which are animated by costumed and bilingual interpreters, who present the daily life of New Brunswick Acadians from 1770 to 1949.
More than just an open-air museum, the Village offered, before the arrival of Covid-19, many experiences such as a day camp, a hotel, traditional cooking workshops, a photo studio, numerous eating places, in addition to cultural activities presented daily from June to September.
We partner with many cultural and community events and try to bring the benefits of tourism to local businesses. Over the years, through its hotel, the Village has developed a range of packages that invite the client to go off-site to discover the attractions of the region.
In addition, the Village team tries to maximize the purchase of local products and promotes and sells them in its restaurants and boutiques. As is the case everywhere else in the world, the arrival of Covid-19 has led to a complete reorganization of the way the various Village departments operate.
Fortunately, thanks to the operational plans developed by the administration, supported by New Brunswick Public Health, the 150 employees of the Village had the opportunity to safely return to work in June 2020, for the start of the tourist season.
This time of dramatic change and uncertainty served to remind the team of the importance of the Village in the community. Nearly 45 years after its opening, the historic site is still an essential place of living Acadian memories, but it has also become a refuge accessible to all, a place of calm and relaxation.
