Remsoft Employees Give Generously To Community Causes
This story is part of a series called, Business Does Good, stories about Maritime companies contributing time and money to making their communities stronger.
FREDERICTON – Remsoft’s employees have given over $1,000 to Fredericton Community Kitchens in the name of their co-founders. This is outside of the company program that has given more than $340,000 to local causes in the past five years.
Remsoft, a leader in forest, land, and asset management analytic technology, has a corporate culture of giving back to the community. The employee donation to Fredericton Community Kitchens showcases that mission put to practice.
Alan MacAulay, Vice President of Finance & Operations, says the donation was made in the names of co-founders Andrea Feunekes, Chief Executive Officer, and Ugo Feunekes, Chief Technology Officer, was to recognize their efforts as team leaders.
“The team said throughout the year, Andrea and Ugo do so much for us as a company and as a team and they’re very private people, behind the scenes, and don’t want a lot of fanfare,” said MacAulay. “This particular cause is very near and dear to their hearts.”
Outside of this act, Remsoft’s Annual Giving Program allows for members of the team to champion causes near to their hearts at the year’s end from money set aside in the company’s annual budget.
“Our team gets so excited about this, and rightfully so, and it’s really their opportunity to give and it makes an impact,” said MacAulay.
Each year, team members complete a proposal for a cause which is then reviewed by a committee of team members outside of the executive staff.
In past years, donations have been made to projects benefitting the PEI Humane Society, Nature Trust of New Brunswick, and Girl Guides of Canada.
“The funds cannot be used for operational purposes,” said MacAulay. “One of the requirements is that the money goes to projects with start and ends so we can see it measurably and the entire organization can see it.”
MacAulay says he estimates Remsoft will be giving close to $60,000 at the year’s end and the organizations will be decided in January.
“It’s a corporate thing, but it’s really driven by the passion and the interests of the people on the team. It really mobilizes and enables people on the team to do good,” said MacAulay. “We each don’t have tens of thousands of dollars to give back but collectively as a company, that’s where you see the power to be able to do that.”
