Ottawa Extends 75 Percent Wage Subsidy Until December
OTTAWA – The federal wage subsidy is being extended to December, the prime minister announced Monday.
With the Canada Emergency Wage Subsidy (CEWS) program set to expire on July 21, Justin Trudeau says the latest extension is “to give greater certainty and support to businesses as we restart the economy.”
The 75 percent wage subsidy helps businesses that can’t afford their employees’ salaries because of their lost revenue due to the pandemic.
Initially, the government said the program would cover wages for the 12-week period between March 15 and June 7. This is the second time the program has been extended.
Businesses and charities can get up to $847 per week per employee through the CEWS.
