The province remains in the first stage of the yellow phase until June 5, meaning gyms, pools and other facilities expected to re-open this weekend will remain closed.
The weekly market in uptown Saint John will return Sunday, June 7, with a new layout in keeping with the physical distancing guidelines in place.
On Thursday, Irving Oil and U.S. investment firm Silverpeak announced that they have signed an agreement for Irving Oil to acquire North Atlantic Refining Corp., subject to regulatory review and conditions of sale being met.
The decision comes as the province forecasts a $299-million deficit this year due to the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The by-law would require shop owners to identify their carts and implement a system to manage abandoned shopping carts. Shop owners could risk having to pay a $50 fee to get a cart back from the city if they fail to retrieve it within 24 hours.
“New Brunswick’s Egg Farmers know how hard it is to feed a family every day, and in these challenging times, it’s even harder,” said Hans Kristensen, chairman of Egg Farmers of New Brunswick.
The rest of the province will remain in the Yellow phase. Premier Blaine Higgs says the latest case is travel-related and he calls the individual “irresponsible.”
Mitchell Boyle, the owner of Boyle Family Farm, says the Saturday market has been very busy, giving area farmers the opportunity to sell their products through a tough time.
The City of Saint John issued a request for expressions of interest to take over some of its higher-profile recreation facilities this past January.
