What Would You Do With $10,000 To Improve Saint John’s Urban Core?
SAINT JOHN – There are several mural projects in recent years that have helped beautify the city’s urban core, with one of them on the back wall of an Historica Developments building on King Street.
Historica is now partnering with Envision Saint John on the $10,000 Urban Challenge. Residents of the Greater Saint John area are being challenged to come up with an idea for how they would improve the city centre with up to $10,000 in funding.
It could be a new mural or art installation, a refurbished playground, or more public charging stations, as examples. Historica and Envision are looking for fresh ideas on improving the uptown.
“The idea was designed to create an engaging, inclusive and creative platform for residents to take part in the beautification of the Saint John region,” said Margot Brideau, Vice President of Historica Developments. “Partnering with Envision Saint John to bring this idea to life seemed like a natural fit, as the newly formed agency responsible for driving an innovative, regional approach to growth.”
Individuals or teams are invited to submit proposals between now and July 5, and proposals will be evaluated based on a number of criteria, including feasibility and community impact.
Historic and Envision are looking for a wide variety of submissions.
“What would you do with $10,000 to make our region more livable? More beautiful? More interesting?” said Paulette Hicks, CEO of Envision Saint John. “We look forward to the creativity our residents will ultimately bring to the table. I think the hardest part for the jury will be narrowing it down to one proposal.”
