Salisbury’s Scooptopia Upgrades with Indoor Seating and More
SALISBURY – A favourite ice cream shop in Salisbury, Scooptopia, has expanded for the 2023 season. Kirk Dunham, co-owner of Scooptopia, says the business is planning big things this year.
Scooptopia opened in the summer of 2021. It’s a local ice cream shop that brings a fun twist to a classic summer treat. It quickly became a hit with many in the Salisbury area, and has become a go-to ice cream shop for the community.
“It’s more than just an ice cream shop,” Dunham tells Huddle. “We do exotic creations; we do fancy, creative options.”
Dunham started Scooptopia after the closure of The Dairy Depot, the previous well-known local ice cream shop in Salisbury, during Covid-19.
“There was very limited options [for stuff to do in Salisbury] really,” he says. “We wanted to fill a void in the community.”
This year, Dunham says he officially opened the shop on May 24, just in time for the long weekend. However, for returning customers, there are many new elements this year.
Before opening for the summer of 2023, Dunham says they renovated their location at 3138 Main Street to have indoor seating, rather than just operating as a pick-up window. This addition allows Scooptopia to remain open no matter the weather and for people to come in and treat themselves whenever they have the desire.
“We’ve got 1200 square feet indoors, we have like a candy section, we’re doing cheesecakes this year, we have dipped soft serve as well,” says Dunham.
Along with this, Dunham says that Scooptopia is in Phase 2 of its renovations. Currently, they are working on adding a kitchen to their location so that they can bring their unique touch to a food menu.
“We’re still going to stick with the ice cream, but we want to do more options,” he says. “Parents come in the evening, kids want ice cream, everybody wants to eat, so we’re going to have some food options for them.”
Although the food will be the same as what is typically found at a local restaurant, it is the displays and presentations that Dunham says will make their food true to the Scooptopia style.
Over the course of this summer, Dunham says that there are many more new Scooptopia products to come. As early as later this week, people should expect to see some of these dropping.
Dunham says that there will be something new dropping nearly every week at Scooptopia. And for those who are following them on Facebook and TikTok, there may be even more “secret menu” items that are follower exclusive, made only by request.
Following the summer season, Dunham also shared that Scooptopia will now be open year-round, rather than just in the summer. Due to their indoor renovations, they will now be able to operate no matter the season, and provide their community-favourite creations to everyone all year long.
