Local Crystal Shop Moves Into Permanent Home in Bathurst
BATHURST – A new crystal shop has opened at 948 St Peters Avenue in Bathurst. Jean-Francois Doucet, owner of The Grooveshop, says he is excited to finally have his own storefront.
The Grooveshop is a local Bathurst business that sells custom clothing, wall tapestries, but most of all, crystals. It’s been in operation for roughly two years but has now finally moved into its own space.
Doucet says that over the past two years, he had been operating solely out of local markets and events. But this summer he finally made the jump to set up camp in a permanent location.
“Last summer, I was thinking a lot about what it would be like to start a shop, and there were some people who were asking. So, this summer, instead of going for my usual summer job I decided to start a shop,” Doucet tells Huddle.
Doucet says that The Grooveshop had originally started with only custom clothing and wall tapestries. But after developing an interest in crystals, he started to base the shop around that.
After changing paths with The Grooveshop, Doucet said that this allowed him to pursue a career in something he was truly interested in, as well as further explore into this interest.
“I like getting into the business with [crystals] because I can see so many more different crystals,” he says.
Doucet says that in The Grooveshop there is a crystal for everybody; carrying a wide variety of crystals, there is something for every level of collector.
Currently, Doucet says that he has many beginner crystals, such as amethyst, rose quartz, and clear quartz. But there are also more uncommon types, such as emerald and aquamarine. In total, Doucet says that there are roughly 50 different types of crystals available at The Grooveshop, and in a wide variety of forms as well.
“It’s a small shop but it’s a broad selection,” he says.
Having a limited number of shops in the area that carry crystals, Doucet prides himself in having The Grooveshop be fully dedicated to crystals, with the exception of the custom clothing that he does on the side.
In the future, Doucet wants to expand on the custom clothing that he can do. One of the things he mentioned was wanting to add hats to what he can work with, but is not sure when that will happen.
This summer, The Grooveshop will be present at the Farmers Market in Beresford every Saturday. He is also hoping to be present at some local events over the summer, but has not yet chosen the exact ones.
Being officially open for two weeks now, Doucet says that he is excited to have a permanent home for his business, and wants to welcome everyone in to come and check it out.
