MK Thai Gourmet Opens Doors in Downtown Moncton
MONCTON – MK Thai Gourmet has officially opened its doors in Moncton at the old home of Starbucks on Main Street. The restaurant has been open for one month and Aphinya Dhiratanon, manager of MK Thai Gourmet, says everyone is very happy with how things are going.
MK Thai Gourmet is an authentic Thai restaurant. Moving here from Ontario, Mai Saikosin and Kate Phaunpa, owners of MK Thai Gourmet, sought a fresh start by opening their new business. They sold their previous business in Ontario, opening MK Thai Gourmet in Moncton to have a slower atmosphere than in downtown Toronto.
“Toronto in Ontario is really busy and everything is go, go, go and everything’s so fast, and we just wanted to move here and relax and open the business,” Dhiratanon tells Huddle.

Dhiratanon says they were also influenced to set up shop in the long-time vacant unit because of the downtown location. Although Saikosin and Phaunpa were looking for a more relaxing environment, they still wanted to be in an area of high foot traffic.
Currently, MK Thai Gourmet has a variety of stir-fries, noodles, and curries available to order. When asked how their items differ from other Thai restaurants in the area, Dhiratanon said that they aim to make their meals in a true, authentic style.
“We are authentic Thai, not like an Asian fusion,” says Dhiratanon.
Located at 761 Main Street in Downtown Moncton, MK Thai Gourmet is a sit-down restaurant, though it does offer takeout. Dhiratanon says that they have the restaurant divided into two sections for those looking for a fine dining experience and those looking for something quick to-go.
Along with this, Dhiratanon says that they are available on Doordash and Skip the Dishes. This allows MK Thai Gourmet to reach even more people around the community.
Although MK Thai Gourmet has been open since May 15, it has yet to hold its grand opening event. Dhiratanon says that they are hoping to have this sometime in July but will post the exact date once they know on their social media platforms.
In the upcoming months, Dhiratanon says that the team at MK Thai Gourmet is excited to meet more people throughout the Moncton community. They want to welcome everyone into their new restaurant with open arms to come and try their delicious food.
