Salisbury Mexican Taco Restaurant Moves to New Location
SALISBURY – Tacos Dorados Sinaloa Style will host the grand opening of its new location on June 1. Sarah Gaxiola, the restaurant’s co-owner, says she is excited to welcome everyone in once again.
Gaxiola says that she and her husband, Mitl Gaxiola, opened their first Tacos Dorados Sinaloa Style location in the summer of 2022. They initially started the business out of their home and the progression to a proper storefront was inevitable.
“Mitl and I have had a dream of opening an authentic Mexican restaurant for quite a while,” Gaxiola tells Huddle. “We started doing it to pay for our wedding.”
She says that they had started selling tacos just to see if it was an idea that could work to help raise money and were beyond surprised when they were an instant hit.
Unlike tacos that are typically sold in New Brunswick, Tacos Dorados Sinaloa Style creates a fried taco that is authentic to Mexico. They also sell a Mexican-style sushi that is made with all cooked ingredients, such as chicken, beef, shrimp, and more.
“We started to have people who would come back every week and they were just like ‘I’m craving your tacos; it’s ridiculous,’” says Gaxiola. “It’s so different, it’s so fresh and good, and it’s nothing like Mexican food that we’ve had [in New Brunswick] before.”
After this initial turnout, Gaxiola says that they had realized just how different their tacos were from the traditional tacos sold in New Brunswick and that they were bringing something to the community that people truly did want.
Their first storefront was in a small building in Salisbury that was previously a bar. It allowed them to have a kitchen of their own and give them a slightly bigger space than in their house. It also allowed them to reach more people in Salisbury, being located on a high-traffic road between the highway and Main Street.
This year, Tacos Dorados Sinaloa Style is moving to a new location inside of the Salisbury Farmers Market on Main Street.
“We’re going to put down some roots into the restaurant space that is there with the farmers market,” says Gaxiola.
Gaxiola says that the location is still under renovation and will therefore only be open for takeout at first. However, as the summer progresses, they plan to have a variety of indoor and outdoor seating available.
Over the course of summer 2023, Gaxiola says that Tacos Dorados Sinaloa Style has plans to make additions to its menu. They also hope to offer new events within the restaurant for the community to enjoy, such as paint nights.
“The idea is to move towards being an all-year-round [restaurant],” Gaxiola says. “Last year, we just did kind of like a takeout only for the summer only, and hopefully this year we can continue right through the winter, but we’ll probably make that call later on during the year.”
With the first year of Tacos Dorados Sinaloa Style being an amazing hit, Gaxiola says that she is excited to launch this year off as soon as possible.
