Fredericton Filmmaker Premiers Docuseries on Bell TV
FREDERICTON – Robert Gow, a Fredericton filmmaker, has recently premiered his new docuseries, “Real Faces”. This eight-episode, jaw-dropping series is currently available on Bell TV1.
Ever since he was a child, Gow has known that he would one day become a filmmaker.
“It’s the only thing I’ve ever really wanted to do, so I’m very, very, fortunate that I get to do it professionally at this point,” Gow tells Huddle.
In 2015, Gow graduated from film school at Queens University in Ontario. He says that, immediately after graduating, he started working on bigger film sets in a variety of different support positions, such as a camera assistant, a lighting guy, and much more. Today, he says that he has worked in just about every role possible on a film set.
While Gow would be working in these positions though, he would also be working on his own projects on the side. From this, he started to move out of working in support roles and into working primarily in narrative-driven documentary.
Before working on “Real Faces”, Gow says that he had two other large projects that he had worked on. The first was a documentary titled “Forced Disappearance”, and the second was another docuseries titled “Real Food Stories”, which is also available on Bell TV1.
Gow’s new docuseries, “Real Faces”, focuses on telling a variety of different people’s stories, all of which are captivating in their own ways.
Each episode focuses on a different individual, with Gow hosting them in an interview to tell their story. From drag queens, to aliens, to residential school survivors, “Real Faces” is a show that everybody should check out.
“I wanted to make a collection of jaw-dropping stories. Some would be uplifting, some horrifying, some mind-expanding, but I think all of them sort of have some sort of through line of people struggling to overcome some sort of adversary,” says Gow.
The idea for “Real Faces” came to Gow while he was working on “Real Food Stories”. He says that the stories that are featured on the show are those in which he either came across in the local community, or has just always wanted to look into.
Each individual that is featured in “Real Faces” is local to the Fredericton area, giving a greater voice to local community members who may not have had one beforehand. Gow says, despite what some may believe, people tend to be eager to share their stories-even the difficult ones.
“I would say in general, people want to share that type of stuff, so it’s actually not as difficult as [people would] think,” he says. “But there are certainly ones that I had to ask around.”
In the upcoming months, Gow hopes to continue with “Real Faces”. He already has a list of numerous stories that he’s interested in looking into for season two, and is just waiting for approval to start production.
“My dream life is, I do a new season of this show every year until I die, because I love making it and it was a blast,” says Gow. “I have a lot of people lined up for season two.”
