Saint John Candy Store Expands into Ice Cream Shop for Summer 2023
SAINT JOHN – AREA 506 will soon be the home of the new Melt Down Confections. Selling primarily ice cream and frozen treats, Melt Down Confections will be the place to visit over summer 2023.
Terri Blanchard, the shops’ co-owner, says that this will be a sister store to her other business, Candy World. Both stores will be located in AREA 506 this summer.
Candy World is a candy store that sells not-so-typical candy, which Blanchard has run for the past two years. With 2023 being Blanchard’s second year in AREA 506, she says that opening Melt Down Confections was a natural progression.
“[AREA 506] didn’t have an ice cream vendor this year and they knew that I sold ice cream,” Blanchard tells Huddle. “So, I said I’ll take it over and that’s what happened.”
Opening May 19th, Melt Down Confections will provide AREA 506 with not just ice cream, but also churros, soft pretzels, nachos, and much more. Blanchard predicts that their main attraction though will be their Dippin’ Dots.
“Melt Down will have [Dippin’ Dots] in bulk,” she says. “The thing with that is for the same price you can mix whatever flavours you want. The prices aren’t any different.”
Blanchard says that she aims to bring affordable ice cream and delicious treats to the AREA 506 community this summer. Having roughly 35 ice cream flavours to choose from, she says that she wants to keep things exciting yet reasonable.
“We just want everybody to be able to enjoy ice cream,” says Blanchard. “You can’t gouge people out of ice cream. A scoop is a scoop.”
Blanchard says that Melt Down is the only store on the east side of Saint John with hard scoop ice cream, which will ideally attract a large population to AREA 506. Along with this, she says that Melt Down Confections is the primary ice cream provider for AREA 506 and hopes to bring excitement over ice cream to the community.
With plenty of sitting area around AREA 506 to enjoy Melt Down Confections’ delicious treats, they can’t wait to open this Friday. Open rain or shine, Blanchard is excited to see everyone from both near and far enjoy Melt Down Confections’ ice cream and treats.
