Local Food Truck Aims to Bring New Food Culture to Moncton
MONCTON – At the end of April, the Singh family opened their new Dieppe’s Eatery food truck in Moncton. Providing the Moncton area with poutines and Indian street-style food, the new venture marks the Singhs’ debut in the food truck industry.
After moving to New Brunswick in 2019, the Singhs wanted to start their own restaurant. Originally, they searched for a franchise that they could operate in Moncton but realized after some time that they wanted something with a bit more freedom to create their own items.
The motivation to get a food truck rather than a restaurant space was due to the difficulty they had experienced when looking for a place to lease. Since they did not have any previous business experience, many places would not lease to them. This led to the Singh family creating their own space which has come to be known as the Dieppe’s Eatery food truck.
Pardeep Singh, the co-owner of Dieppe’s Eatery, had previously worked in the food industry for roughly seven years. Opening his own food business was something he had always dreamed of.
As the primary chef, he creates items like poutine, street noodles, samosas, and much more. He aims to use these items to bring the Indian food culture to the Moncton area. All the items he makes are from scratch, at home, and then brought to the truck to sell.
He says he and his wife’s goal with Dieppe’s Eatery is not to make money, but to bring a new food culture at an affordable price to others within the community. Since their food cost is roughly 50 percent, they try to offer their food at reasonable prices for all.
Being open for three weeks now, Dieppe’s eatery has seen a great start to the business. Just recently launching their social media and website, they hope to see even more new faces from the community.
Currently, Dieppe’s Eatery is located in the parking lot of 50 Plaza Boulevard in Moncton, but predicts that there will be times throughout the summer when they will move for events. In the case that they do move locations, they will be posting it on their social media.
Along with this, Dieppe’s Eatery is also available for the Moncton area on Doordash. This contains their full menu and allows the Singh family to reach an even larger part of the community.
Over the following months, the Singh family hopes to bring their food truck to events around Moncton and its surrounding areas and gain an even higher customer following. Their ultimate goal is to bring fresh and affordable meals to those in the community while introducing them to the Indian food culture.
