Sackville Set For ‘Sandwich Week’
SACKVILLE – Another food festival is about to kick off in the HRM, giving hungry Haligonians a chance to shake off the winter blues with some much-needed comfort food.
The Sackville Business Association’s annual Sandwich Week runs from March 4 -11. The event will see 18 restaurants in the Sackville area each offer up a unique sandwich from their menu.
“We are delighted to bring back our fifth annual sandwich week to the large, supportive community of Sackville residents. It is awesome to see our local restaurateurs come together year after year to support such a wonderful cause with a strong community behind them making it possible,” Michelle Champniss, the executive director at Sackville Business Association, says in a news release.
Participating restaurants this year include Sackville staples like Avodah Café, East Coast Smokehouse, Press Play Café, Randy’s Pizza, and many others.
During the festival, foodies are invited to visit any of the participating restaurants and order their featured sandwich. The restaurant will provide a sandwich that can be filled out for a chance to win a family membership to Sackville Sports Stadium.
Sandwich Week is a good way to drum up business for Sackville’s restaurants during the slower shoulder season. But it’s also an important fundraiser for the Sackville Public Library.
Over the last five years, the event has brought in more than $11,300 for food literacy programming at the library. Each participating restaurant donates a portion of its profits from the event. Those donations help teach nutrition and practical cooking skills to people of all ages.
