Moncton Shutterbug Braces For Busiest Year Yet
MONCTON – Karen Casey is leaning into her strengths as demand picks up at her Moncton photography studio.
Casey, the founder and owner of Casey & Co. Photography Studio, works out of an 1,800-square-foot studio at 1644 Mountain Road. She unveiled her new studio – one she moved into a year ago – at a February 23 grand opening, which also served as a celebration of the meteoric growth in local demand for her photography.
“It’s a dream studio I’ve always wanted,” she told Huddle.
Casey has been running her studio for 17 years, starting with a home studio in Fredericton.
Casey, whose specialty is portraiture, said 2022 has been her busiest year so far and that she expects 2023 to potentially be even bigger.
“Last year, I photographed over 150 graduates in the Moncton region, so that was massive growth,” she said. “I’ve built a great clientele, and people love what I do and I have a personality that fits with certain people and that’s my style.”
Helping cement her niche in the industry is a jet-setting service Casey recently launched. She now books vacations for destination events like weddings and travels with clients to photograph them there.
“They get a one-stop-shop package, because sometimes you don’t always know what you’re going to get somewhere else,” Casey said.
Casey & Co. specializes in everything from weddings and graduations to branding photos for business purposes. It’s a market perch she built with years of work at community events like high school graduations and weddings.
“In general, I photograph weddings, families, and children. I do a lot of business headshots for businesses that need branding or to build a social media story. I just absolutely love to photograph people,” she said.
Casey said Covid was a catalyst in finding a location for a studio outside of her home. The pandemic also prompted her to find new specialties.
“I’ve learned to photograph products for people who want to sell their products online. That was a big thing over the last couple of years,” Casey said.
Her new studio on Mountain Road is accompanied by plans to expand. Right now, Casey works with one staff member but she plans to hire two more this year.
“I see that 2023 is going to be even better. It’s going to be a rockin’ year for sure, so I definitely need some help behind me,” she said.
