Port Saint John Donates $25,000 To Local Non-Profits
SAINT JOHN — Port Saint John is giving $5,000 to five local charities.
The port’s $25,000 total donation targets “priority neighbourhoods surrounding the port,” and will see money go to the Carleton Community Centre Inc, ONE Change Inc, Crescent Valley Resource Centre, P.U.L.S.E. Inc., and the Waterloo Village Neighbourhood Association.
In a news release, port president and CEO Craig Estabrooks says the port wants to ensure the Saint John community benefits from the port’s recent growth.
“We know that many are struggling to make ends meet this year, so we are happy to be able to make this donation to support these five charities that do so much to help our priority neighbourhoods,” Estabrooks said.
“It’s our responsibility as a member of the Saint John community to be responsive to local needs and we hope that this donation will fill a gap for these organizations.”
ONE Change Inc’s Tamara Kelly said the donation is a “great example of the port supporting community organizations that work in Saint John.
She said the money will help ONE offer more programming to residents in the city’s north end.
“Working with limited resources, donations like these are instrumental. Their support for summer programs hosted at P.U.L.S.E. are a hit with residents of all ages and provide opportunities for people to come together. The Port is part of our community and we appreciate their commitment to the neighbourhood,” added P.U.L.S.E’s Mary LeSage.
