Springboard Atlantic Chosen To Launch New Atlantic IP Program
HALIFAX – The federal government has chosen Springboard Atlantic to launch a new business development initiative in Atlantic Canada.
The new “Atlantic IP” initiative comes through the government’s ElevateIP program. ElevateIP will launch in 2023 with $90 million from Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada. The program aims to provide tools to Canadian startups to help them better protect, strategically manage, and leverage their intellectual property.
Springboard Atlantic has been tapped to run the Atlantic Canadian part of the program. That means helping business accelerators and incubators in the region increase IP capacity within the Canadian innovation ecosystem.
The Atlantic IP Initiative will create training opportunities throughout the region, in English and French, for all stakeholders, including underrepresented groups.
It will help with everything from basic IP understanding to building IP strategy. The Initiative will support startups through all stages of the IP continuum, including support funding for IP protection.
The programs will be delivered through a series of regional collaborators and program staff, including regional counselors who will be IP practitioners with IP development and commercialization experience.
“Maximizing the potential of IP has been a growing focus across our region for over a decade,” says Daryl Genge, the president and CEO of Springboard Atlantic. “Sound IP strategy is key to competitiveness of our high-potential firms.
“The Atlantic IP Initiative will ensure our region’s startups have the support they need to leverage their IP in the marketplace and will significantly contribute to their success and our region’s overall growth.”
The Atlantic IP Initiative will launch early in 2023 and run until 2026.
Springboard Atlantic is a member-based organization supported by the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency and its network members. It’s made up of industry engagement representatives at 19 post-secondary institutions across Atlantic Canada who provide intellectual property support and training and act as connectors between researchers and industry.
