Major Airlines Reducing Flights To Moncton In 2023
MONCTON — The Greater Moncton Roméo LeBlanc International Airport (YQM) expects to welcome about 600,000 passengers in 2023. That’s about 89 percent of pre-pandemic levels.
At a recent year-end meeting, YQM president and CEO Courtney Burns said two major carriers will be cutting back service in the coming months.
“Domestic flights with both Air Canada and Westjet are being reduced. WestJet will be reducing starting in January to only three flights a week to Toronto, part of their announced strategy to refocus on the West.”
Sun seekers will be happy this winter with a return of southbound flights after being cancelled during the pandemic years of 2021 and 2022.
“Starting in the second week of February, we’ll have 11 weekly direct flights to warm destinations in Mexico, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Jamaica and Florida via our partners Sunwing and Air Transit,” Burns noted.
She expects the airport will likely return to profitability next year and any surplus would be reinvested into the facility.
