The Children’s Place In McAllister Place Mall Will Close By January
SAINT JOHN — The Children’s Place kids’ clothing store in Saint John’s McAllister place is closing in January 2023 after over a decade in the mall.
Shoppers filled the store on Wednesday morning to take advantage of the 60 percent off sale the store was holding. The sale will continue until January unless its inventory sells out first.
The store offers clothing, including winter gear, boots, pyjamas, formal wear, and casual clothing for sizes ranging from six months to 16 years.
Customers who bought items received a coupon entitling them to an additional 40 percent off at The Children’s Place at the Regent Shopping Mall in Fredericton, or any Canadian location that is not in liquidation. The coupon can also be used for online purchases. The Children’s Place operates stores in Moncton at Champlain Place, and in Halifax at the Halifax Shopping Centre and the Mic Mac Mall.
Employees were busy restocking shelves and bringing out Christmas clothes as shoppers searched through the racks for sizes and styles, some with small children in tow.
In May the company reported that it would be closing 40 of its stores after a poor financial showing in the first quarter of 2022.
“Financial results for the first quarter ended April 30, 2022 at The Children’s Place included a 17 percent drop in net sales to $362.4 million compared to $435.5 million in the three months ended May 1, 2021. Net sales also decreased $50 million, or 12.1 percent, compared to $412.4 million in the three months ended May 4, 2019” Chain Store Age, a retail publication, reported.
The Children’s Place did not return requests for an interview.
The American chain has locations across Canada and the United States and also operates the brand Gymboree.
