Famous Halifax Tugboat Now Listed On Airbnb
HALIFAX — If you’ve ever wanted to stay a night on Nova Scotia’s lovable Theodore Tugboat, this might be your chance.
Airbnb is offering two individual, one-night stays to four people each on September 10 and 11. Bookings will open on Monday, August 29.
This will be the first time non-crew will be allowed to stay the night on the famous tug.
In a message on Airbnb’s website, Theodore’s captain, Noah Krantz, says he will be thrilled to welcome guests aboard the tug for the first time.
“You’ll cozy up in our cabins surrounded by memorabilia celebrating Canada’s nautical history, enjoy a movie night on the deck — and of course, take a cruise in Hamilton’s Harbour with some of my finest crew members,” the captain says in his pitch to prospective guests.
Guests will also be treated to “a few square meals” featuring local eats from Hamilton small businesses.
Airbnb says on its website this is not a contest and people will be selected on a first-come, first-served basis. However, being the lucky guests will depend on how fast you can book your reservation.
Airbnb will also make a one-time donation to The Sunshine Foundation of Canada, a national charity that fulfills dreams for children and youth living with severe physical disabilities, in honour of the bookings.
Theodore TOO was a fixture in Halifax Harbour for more than two decades until it was sold to Blair McKeil of McKeil Marine. Since moving to Hamilton in 2021, Theodore has worked with Swim Drink Fish, a water education and conservation advocacy group, to promote sustainability and preservation of the Great Lakes.
The lovable tug was built at Synder’s Shipyard in Dayspring, N.S. in 2000 and is based on the fictional television character Theodore Tugboat.
