The Return of Zellers
TORONTO — The once defunct Canadian retail brand Zellers is about to make a comeback.
The Hudson’s Bay Company, which owns the Zellers brand, will launch the first-ever e-commerce site for Zellers in early 2023.
The Canadian retailer closed its doors in 2013 and stores were liquidated due to financial issues.
HBC plans to leverage its network of brick-and-mortar locations to expand the Zellers footprint in major cities across Canada.
Zellers outlets will be opened in current HBC stores.
The company says a digital-first shopping journey will be offered by Zellers and Zellers.ca. It will tap into the nostalgia of the brand many Canadians know and love.
This will include a refreshed identity and a unique product assortment for families “at an everyday value.”
Their plan is to launch categories including housewares and home décor, furniture, small appliances, toys, and pet accessories. The introduction of apparel will come later.
The Zellers department store was founded in 1931 and acquired by HBC in 1978.
