Halifax Airport Officially Opens New Logistics Park
HALIFAX – The Halifax Stanfield International Airport has expanded its air cargo processing capacity, and room for economic growth, with the opening of its new logistics park.
The Halifax International Airport Authority (HIAA) announced the completion of the Stanfield Air Cargo Logistics Park – Atlantic Canada’s largest air cargo processing facility – on Aug. 4.
The new facility will build on the airport’s existing cargo processing capacity, allowing for more logistical and commercial business between the airport and international global air cargo businesses.
The $36 million total costs of construction were funded by the federal government, which provided $18 million, and the province, which chipped in $5 million.
The HIAA also contributed $13 million toward the construction of the facility.
The logistics park includes a new building with cold storage space, and cargo processing facilities. Five new aircraft parking spaces were built in the area as well.
With the new logistics park, the airport now offers eight aircraft parking spaces and new cold storage capacity, among other enhancements to its logistics capacity.
The logistics park’s office space has been fully leased by two tenants – Cargojet ad First Catch Fisheries.
The Halifax Stanfield International Airport processed 34,769 metric tons of cargo – worth about $496-million –in 2021. Cargo exports contributed about $664-million the Nova Scotia’s economy in 2020.
