‘It May Be Our Biggest One Ever’: Downtown Halifax Businesses Optimistic For Tourism Season
HALIFAX–There’s a sense optimism among the downtown-Halifax business community as the tourism season kicks off.
That’s according to CEO of the Downtown Halifax Business Commission, Paul MacKinnon.
“There’s is a growing optimism… and projections that are telling us — knock on wood — this tourist season is going to be pretty big,” Mackinnon says. “And in fact, there’s some indications it may be our biggest one ever, or close to it.”
He says having cruise ships return to the harbour after two years is a welcome sight for business owners.
“We’re kind of looking at pre-pandemic levels for the most part for the summer. So, a lot of excitement and cruise ships are huge part of the tourism industry here.”
The industry pumps more than $170 million into the local economy.
Halifax welcomed it’s first ships into the port on April 26.
