YMCA Newcomer Connections To Help Employers In The Greater Saint John Region Retain Newcomers
“Every newcomer’s settlement journey is unique, as are the needs they have during their settlement journey, and employer support certainly makes a huge difference in getting newcomer employees from landing to settlement easier and possibly shorter,” says Racheal Adeyemo, the Newcomer Employment Champions [NEC] coordinator in the YMCA of Greater Saint John’s Newcomer Connection.
Adeyemo is now actively meeting employers who look forward to supporting newcomers in our community.
The NEC was developed to help address employers’ concerns regarding hiring, onboarding, and retaining newcomers. By utilizing the best practices, tools, and resources, NEC helps employers feel more confident about integrating newcomers into their organizations.
“This is not just another training, and the YMCA will walk alongside each employer in navigating this process,” said Daniel Rito, former manager of Newcomer Programming of YMCA Newcomer Connections. “I am excited to see how this program evolves.”
With access to a full-time program expert, the program is designed to provide employers with all the resources they need to support their newcomer employees from the point of hiring through to onboarding and ultimately retain these employees at their workplace.
To participate in the NEC, all an employer needs to do is reach out to the Program Coordinator, Racheal Adeyemo, who will guide the employer through the process and enroll in the program.
“The Newcomer Employers Champions is an amazing program to help you help newcomers in your workplace. If you are looking to hire newcomers, I highly recommend participating in this program,” said Kathryn Melvin, General Manager of Newcomer and Community Connections at YMCA of Greater Saint John.
The NEC is funded by Working NB and delivered by YMCA Newcomer Connections. This program is set up to assist employers in Greater Saint John in addressing challenges around the hiring, onboarding, and retention of newcomer employees by providing tools and resources in best practices and training that they are able to implement within their organizations.
