Suspicious Overnight Fire Destroys Another Business In The Cap-Pelé Area
CAP-PELé–Another suspicious fire in Cap-Pelé is under investigation by RCMP.
Fire Chief Ronald Cormier says the Chez Camille restaurant was fully engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived on scene early in the morning on April 24.
In a Facebook post, the restaurant’s owners say they will keep customers posted about what their summer will look like after the fire.
“We are simply devastated by the fire that was set last night to Chez Camille. Thank you to all those that helped fight the fire over night,” they said.
The CEO of the Chamber of Commerce for Cap-Pelé/Beaubassin-Est, Anthony Azard, issued a statement to say he “wholeheartedly with” the Chez Camille team.
“Like many, I am saddened and in shock to see another business in our region go under the flames earlier this morning,” he said in the April 24 statement.
He said the unfortunate situation with Chez Camille adds to a long list of recent fires.
In August of 2021, three smokehouses in the eastern region of the province burned down over the course of a few weeks, including the M&M Cormier Fisheries in Petit-Cap.
Those fires were deemed suspicious and have not yet been solved.
In his statement, Azard said the chamber met with officials from Beaubassin-Est and the Village of Cap-Pelé to discuss the fires.
“The unfortunate situation today with Chez Camille Take Out adds to the long list of recent fires, we are still very concerned about the safety of our businesses,” he said.
“However, we can, and we must, trust the work and the investigation currently being carried out by the competent authorities on this case. We hope that the investigations can lead to concise and clear conclusions for our businesses.”
The RCMP are asking anyone with information about the fires to contact them at 506-533-5151. Anyone with information can also call anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
