Construction On Atlantic Carrier’s New Home Underway In Moncton Industrial Park
MONCTON–Atlantic Carrier has shovels in the ground for a new headquarters in Moncton’s Caledonia Industrial Park, just in time to celebrate a quarter-century of operation in the Hub City.
Domenic Barbuto, general manager with Atlantic Carrier, confirmed that the company plans to move from its current perch at 295 McNaughton Ave to a new 25,000-30,000-square-foot home on Frenette Avenue.
“We just wanted a bigger space that’s more suited to our business. It’s going to be a bit more technological to help us with our services,” Barbuto said.
Atlantic Carrier specializes in the service and repair of refrigerated transportation equipment, like the systems integrated into tractor-trailers and sea cans. The company employs more than 40 people across the Atlantic provinces and has locations in New Brunswick and Newfoundland, with mobile services offered across Atlantic Canada.
Barbuto noted the business has been looking to expand into a larger home for a few years and was spurred to make the move when the opportunity to take on more work spurred its leadership to buy land for an expansion.
He said Atlantic Carrier hopes to be in its new space by late 2022 or early 2023.
The work, being carried out by Amico Construction, is just down the road from the new multi-million-dollar, 80,000-square-foot factory under construction for Ideal Roofing.
This year marks Atlantic Carrier’s 25th in business since its founding in April 30, 1997. The move is an exciting milestone for Barbuto, who noted he has seen tremendous growth in Moncton over the last couple of years.
“Although it’s been somewhat difficult with Covid, we’ve managed to grow and maintain–it’s exciting to be part of that, enjoying some of the growth in the Atlantic provinces,” he said.
Barbuto said the new home for the business means an upgrade to a paperless system, with technology integrated and wired throughout the office.
“We’re going to prepare for technology in the shops so our technicians will be able to work right at their desks and move away from the old paperwork for orders. We’re just trying to make things more efficient and make their jobs a little easier,” he said.
While he didn’t provide any specific hiring goals with the plans to move to a bigger footprint, Barbuto said Atlantic Carrier is always hiring.
“Everyone in the Atlantic provinces is hiring right now. We’re always looking to hire and train and we’re struggling a bit with that. But definitely, with the opening of our new building we’re going to need more people,” he said.
“While we’ve had some stresses on hiring, it’s gotten much better.”
