WestJet Adds Non-Stop Routes From Halifax To Paris, Dublin, London
HALIFAX—WestJet is bringing back international, non-stop service from Halifax to several European cities this summer.
The airline’s newly announced summer schedule features flights from Halifax Stanfield International Airport to Paris, London, Dublin, and Glasgow.
In a news release announcing the new routes, WestJet says its summer schedule marks “a significant milestone in the region.” The company adds that it wants to reestablish Halifax as its “Atlantic Gateway Hub”
The company says the new European routes will create “a substantial visitor pipeline from Europe” into Atlantic Canada and claims European travellers are eager to return to the region.
Premier Tim Houston said the new routes “signal that NS has reopened to the world.”
“Europe is an important market for our province. Direct air access brings new investment to our economy [and] supports both tourism and population growth,” Houston said.
Right now, WestJet’s non-stop international flight schedule from Halifax looks like this:
- Halifax-Gatwick: peak frequency 1x daily;
- Halifax-Dublin: peak frequency 3x weekly;
- Halifax-Glasgow, peak frequency 3x weekly;
- Halifax-Paris, peak frequency 4x weekly.
WestJet will begin flying all four routes between May 1-7.
At its peak this summer, WestJet says it will have restored about 94 percent of its pre-pandemic routes.
The airline will offer more than 600 departures each day and serve 43 domestic, 23 transborder, 16 Caribbean, and eight transatlantic destinations.
Those flights will be on top of the ones offered by Westjet’s discount airline, Swoop.
Last month, Swoop announced an Atlantic Canadian summer flight schedule that included 11 different domestic routes, flying at various frequencies.
