Halifax To Drop Vaccination Requirements For Staff
HALIFAX–The Halifax Regional Municipality is ending its vaccination requirements for staff, students, volunteers, and suppliers on February 28.
The news comes days after the province announced its proof-of-vaccine policy would end that same day.
The municipality first launched its mandatory Covid-19 vaccination policy in October. It requires anyone working for the city to be fully vaccinated or “face employment consequences,” which included being put on unpaid administrative leave. It also requires all new hires to be fully vaccinated.
Halifax is also dropping proof-of-vaccine requirements to participate in recreation programming or use recreation and fitness centres.
Province Delays Decision On Unvaccinated Workers
The provincial government hasn’t yet decided whether to drop its vaccine policy for workers.
However, after a February 24 cabinet meeting, Premier Tim Houston said officials were discussing changes in their vaccine policy for provincial employees.
Houston said they would need to decide based on the risks of each workplace and said he expects vaccination against Covid-19 will remain a requirement for all staff working with vulnerable people and in healthcare.
