NB365: David Shipley Of Beauceron Security In Fredericton
This is part of a year-long ‘Love for Local’ series called NB365: portraits of New Brunswick entrepreneurs, businesses, and organizations. Huddle is a media partner with Love for Local. Today we feature David Shipley of Beauceron Security, in Fredericton.
Beauceron Security began in 2015 when a group of cybersecurity experts tasked with protecting the University of New Brunswick decided to try a new approach to measuring, managing, and monitoring cyber risk.
In their roles at the University of New Brunswick, one of North America’s oldest English-language public universities, they had to balance the often competing priorities of openness and security in a highly challenging environment that was constantly under siege.
Working tirelessly, they were able to improve organizational cyber awareness, as well as develop and implement a comprehensive overhaul of its cybersecurity technology architecture.
Working together with a growing cyber-aware and caring community, they were able to keep the university safe despite ever-increasing threats.
Collectively, the team and the community were able to reduce the organization’s phishing response rate from 1 in 3 to 1 in 20.
It wasn’t easy.
The Beauceron Security founders realized there was a gap in the kinds of easy-to-use, fast to deploy and integrated tools they needed to further their gains and sustain the security benefits they had developed over time.
Beauceron Security was born from this work.
