NB365: Margaret Scott Of Scottage Cheeze Dairy Free/Vegan Products In Fredericton
This is part of a year-long ‘Love for Local’ series called NB365: portraits of New Brunswick entrepreneurs, businesses, and organizations. Huddle is a media partner with Love for Local. Today we feature Margaret Scott of Scottage Cheeze Dairy Free/Vegan Products, in Fredericton.
I started a vegan food manufacturing business for many reasons.
I became a vegetarian in the late 80s. I tried to become vegan many times over the years but, due to limited options, I found it very hard. I wanted others who were struggling to have options–and delicious ones.
We try to buy as many local ingredients for our products as possible. We purchase our sauerkraut juice, veggies, and cranberries locally.
We have also collaborated with local cafes, restaurants, and food trucks, who use our products in their creative and delicious meals.
Supporting local has a real impact because each dollar spent stays in the community. If everyone just increased their local shopping by a small percentage, it would make for a much richer province.
