Downtown Security Will Be A Focus In Moncton In 2022
MONCTON–The CEO of the Chamber of Commerce for Greater Moncton has some hope as 2021 draws to a close in solving homelessness and security issues in the downtown area.
John Wishart notes how there will need to be a big focus placed on security in 2022.
“We’re hearing it loud and clear from business owners. They basically have reached their limit. This on top of Covid pressures is really causing a lot of pain.”
CCGM formed a task force of stakeholders earlier this year and a report with 27 action plans was recently unveiled.
Wishart says one of their goals is moving towards ‘functional zero homelessness’ which has been achieved in other cities across Canada including Medicine Hat, Alberta.
He adds part of their solution was forming a community stakeholder road map which was just completed here in Greater Moncton.
Functional zero homelessness is defined as having no more than three people homeless in a community for a period of at least three months at any one time.
