NB365: Chris Legacy Of Four Rivers Brewing Co. In Bathurst
This is part of a year-long ‘Love for Local’ series called NB365: portraits of New Brunswick entrepreneurs, businesses, and organizations. Huddle is a media partner with Love for Local. Today we feature Chris Legacy of Four Rivers Brewing Co., in Bathurst.
My family and I have always been very interested in beer: the different styles, the complexities of how they can vary from one another so drastically just by the slightest recipe change, the passion surrounding the industry as a whole, among many other things.
We noticed that the nearest brewery was in Moncton and we wanted to have that true craft experience a little closer to home. After a few more rounds of “R&D,” we decided that we wanted to try our hands in brewing and entrepreneurship. With all of our varying backgrounds and experience, we could build something that our town could be proud of.
So far, we have been extremely pleased with the feedback we’ve received and all that we have been able to accomplish, including winning a nationally recognized award for our Havre St-Pierre amber ale.
There are so many more avenues of supporting local than just purchasing and you can be quite creative with it.
We have farmers come by and pick up the spent grain (malt) after a batch and they can feed it to their animals at no charge to them. We have some young entrepreneurs that started a company that uses our grain bags to collect dog droppings in the springtime, also at no charge to them.
There are also the traditional routes such as sponsoring events like golf tournaments, curling bonspiels, and also causes that mean a lot to us: veterans and the local SPCA.
The most important thing is to find what works for you as an individual and as an entrepreneur and to do what you can. We wouldn’t be where we are today without the local support we have received and we need to give back so others can succeed as well.
