SimplyCast CEO Named Chair Of N.S. Worker’s Compensation Board
DARTMOUTH—A Dartmouth business leader has been named the new chair of the Worker’s Compensation Board of Nova Scotia.
Saeed El-Darahali is the president and CEO of SimplyCast, a Dartmouth-based tech company that specializes in online marketing software.
Along with his work at SimplyCast, El-Darahali is an active member of Nova Scotia’s business community, working with several not-for-profit and business organizations in the province.
El-Darahali is a part-time lecturer at Saint Mary’s University, an Advisory Board Member with the National Research Council of Canada, and a member of the board of directors at EduNova.
He holds a Masters of Business Administration, a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, a Certificate of Human Resource Management and Minor in Economics, all from Saint Mary’s.
The Worker’s Compensation Board of Nova Scotia gives workplace injury insurance to workers and employers in Nova Scotia.
According to a Government of Nova Scotia news release, the chair of the board is a key leadership position that requires “broad experience in governance and strategic leadership.”
“Mr. El-Darahali has a wealth of experience, is a respected business and community leader and is well suited for this position,” said Jill Balser, Nova Scotia’s Minister of Labour, Skills and Immigration.
El-Darahali’s appointment is for a five-year term, with the possibility of reappointment.
He replaces Rodney Burgar as chair of the WCB. Burger is the long-time CEO and president of Halifax’s Accelerator Inc. who was given the position in 2016.

I’ve got a suggestion for the new chairperson get rid of special coverage designed to transfer costs to the small guy from both costs payouts and costs relating to wcb from employers it goes against legislation for the self employed with3or less employees who are forced to buy insurance thrue wcb which for the most part pay for the cheapest they can afford which pays out less than welfare .why bother with wcb at least with welfare you would get a dental plan .Wcb should be looking out for workers not screwing them over to save on payouts and bigger business coming from a guy who got caught in this trap and now is struggling with stress and depression my pay from wcb is below 550 a month no benefits

This position always seems to fall to a “ business leader”. Do we really think these are the best people for the job of heading up workers compensation? I suggest to you that someone with the qualifications this man, ( and many before him) has are leaning toward the business and not toward the injured worker. It only makes sense. Now, I do understand that there are people out there who view workers comp as a free meal ticket, and these people need to be weeded out, but I would suggest that the proper person to have in a position like this should come from the medical field, and not the business field, and I don’t mean some appointed hospital administrator who wouldn’t know a catheter from an aspirin, but an actual doctor or nurse who can see through all this and have a fair idea of what they are talking about. Just a thought.
