N.S. Premier Apologizes For Suggesting Minimum Wage Workers Don’t Have ‘Real Jobs’
HALIFAX–Premier Tim Houston is apologizing for making a comment in the legislature that suggested people making minimum wage don’t have real jobs.
It happened during an exchange in question period on Thursday when Houston was asked about the province’s $12.95-an-hour minimum wage.
“I don’t know many Nova Scotians that grow up thinking, boy, I hope I make minimum wage when I grow up…they want real jobs,” Houston said.
Houston later told journalists his comments were made in the heat of the moment and he didn’t mean to offend anyone.
“Obviously, everyone who gets up and goes to work has a real job… what I meant was a better job, a career. I apologize for that,” he said.
However, NDP Leader Gary Burrill is calling the comments degrading as his party continues to push for $15 minimum wage.

Great that he gets paid $89,234.90 plus $112,791.20 indemnity and allowances, that is more than the premier of Ontario. Add to that their pension plan you only have to work three years to get a full pension, on average every dollar they put in a nova scotian “not working a real job” puts in 19 dollars. Must be nice to live off the sweat of real nova scotians, do not vote for him again.
