Bicycle Thief Owner Will Open Retail Shop In Downtown Halifax
HALIFAX — A new venture from the Bertossi Group plans to bring some fresh artisanal flavours to downtown Halifax.
The company, known for popular Halifax restaurants like The Bicycle Thief and La Frasca, says it will open a retail shop in October. Pane e Circo will be located at Bishop’s Landing and offer a selection of “high-quality” foods for customers to take home.
According to the Bertossi Group’s Holly Davy, Pane e Circo will stock a large selection of imported salami and cheeses, as well as artisanal breads baked each day
It will also sell the handmade pastas and sauces used in Bertossi Group restaurants.
The Bertossi Group is helmed by Hakan Uluer. Uluer (once the manager of the Bicycle Thief) and Dean Leland bought the business from longtime owners Stephanie and Maurizio Bertossi in 2014. In 2018, Uluer took over as the sole owner.
Today, the company’s portfolio consists of four Italian-inspired restaurants in Halifax: The Bicycle Thief, Ristorante a Mano, La Frasca, and il Mercato Trattoria.
But Pane e Circo isn’t the only establishment the Bertossi Group plans to add to that list in the near future.
Earlier this year, the company announced its plans to open a major restaurant on the Halifax waterfront in 2023.
In January, Uluer told Huddle the yet-to-be-named eatery will occupy a 7,000-square-foot space in Southwest Properties’ Cunard building.
