NB365: Julie Lavoie Of Fraser Edmundston Golf Club
This is part of a year-long ‘Love for Local’ series called NB365: portraits of New Brunswick entrepreneurs, businesses and organizations. Huddle is a media partner with Love for Local. Today, we hear from Julie Lavoie of the Fraser Edmundston Golf Club.
Regardless of your age or skill level, golf is an enjoyable outdoor pastime.
At the Fraser Edmundston Golf Club, the passion for golf is alive and well and there are several special events each week to enjoy throughout the season. We will celebrate 100 years in 2026, and it is exciting to think how much we have benefited from the support of locals, tourists and sports enthusiasts alike over the past century.
The golf club is getting involved in youth development by re-launching the JUNIOR activities which in previous years were very popular with over 150 young people enrolled in the golf school. This year is a start to rebuild the sport at the youth level. We have 53 JUNIORS currently participating in 6 sessions over the summer.
We are also hiring people from the Retirement Employment Agency programs, a new New Brunswick government initiative that matches retired people with part-time or seasonal jobs. Local businesses make a difference because they are the core of a community.
The interrelationship is significant in its economic impact. Local businesses also symbolize the identity of a city; residents are proud of them and this invites the development of tourism and the economy. In short, we have a lot to be proud of in New Brunswick.
