New Climate Action Program Wants To Help N.B. Businesses Take Action
MONCTON — After two years of development, a new program that helps New Brunswick businesses take action against climate change is now looking for members.
Green Economy New Brunswick, led by Green Economy Canada, wants to help business owners build sustainability into the operation and development of their business.
“Members will receive tailored 1:1 support to set and achieve sustainability targets, tools and resources to measure and reduce their environmental impacts, and access to events and workshops to build their capacity for action,” according to a press release earlier this week.
In an interview today, GENB Coordinator Charles Thibodeau said he has seen interest from businesses in the community. Oftentimes they see economic benefits from participating in climate action or want to address climate change but don’t know how.
“Joining an organization like Green Economy New Brunswick is going to help them do that,” said Thibodeau.
With the program, Thibodeau hopes to establish a provincial-wide network of small, individually operated businesses and larger ones.
“The reason why we are concentrating on businesses in New Brunswick is that they haven’t been really engaging in climate action as much as the bigger businesses are. We know they can make a difference. Everyone needs to make a difference if we are really to obtain our net-zero goals by 2050,” said Thibodeau.
More programs like this are developing to help businesses take action, this being the eighth hub to join the network. Thibodeau hopes that their program in New Brunswick will push more hubs to join in other places.
“All businesses can get together to address climate change,” said Thibodeau.
Local partners included the New Brunswick Environmental Network, the City of Moncton and the Regional Development Corporation of New Brunswick.
For businesses interested in joining, there will be info sessions on July 21st and July 29th.
