Energia Ventures Demo Day Showcase Six Startups Ready For Investment
FREDERICTON – The startup accelerator’s fifth “Demo Day” showcased six companies with products and services ready for potential investors and partners.
Energia Ventures is a three-month accelerator out of UNB that provides access to training, resources and funding for entrepreneurs in the cleantech, cybersecurity, and artificial intelligence sectors.
Tuesday’s Demo Day included two Fredericton-based companies and four other companies from Halifax, Toronto, Jerusalem and Ecublens, Switzerland.
“I am delighted to congratulate six new companies representing more than 40 entrepreneurs from around the world on successfully completing the program,” said Fredericton MP Jenica Atwin during the event’s introduction. “You’re playing an important role by stepping up to find new solutions that will improve our quality of life.”
Fredericton-based PLAEX Building Systems showcased their product, durable interlocking bricks made 90 percent from difficult-to-recycle plastic waste. The company says the bricks can be used in low-rise construction and withstand storms, floods, earthquakes, and help reduce electricity usage.
MADA Analytics, based in Jerusalem, featured their fintech system which aims to help reduce the uncertainty of cash flows caused by external factors such as weather in renewable energy projects. Their software helps with risk mitigation and value enhancement to optimize those projects.
Picketa Systems, based in Fredericton, presented a device that helps the new generation of farmers quickly analyze their plant and soil health using a handheld scanning device. Machine learning helps to anticipate the farmer’s future needs and aims to give accurate information to maximize their crop’s potential.
SWTCH showcased its electric vehicle charging and vehicle management solutions for large residential and office buildings that optimize usage and revenue for the owners of those buildings. Based in Toronto, the company sees a future where electric vehicle charging will become more necessary and aims to provide a solution so owners of electric vehicles that frequent large office towers or apartment buildings can charge their vehicles at home or at work.
Switzerland-based SmartHelio showcased their seep-data analytics and decision-making tool for solar energy projects. Their product helps identify issues in solar energy projects to guide project management to make informed decisions.
Drinkable, based in Halifax, showcased their nano-material-based sensor system that was created with the goal to improve access to water testing. The product helps users fully understand water quality and can be an effective tool for drinking water.
