Porter Will Resume Flights To Atlantic Canada This Fall
ATLANTIC CANADA – Porter Airlines will again be taking off starting in September.
Porter’s flights will return to Atlantic Canada in phases, beginning with Halifax’s routes to Ottawa and Montreal on September 13. Service from Halifax to St. John’s, Newfoundland will return on September 17.
September 17 will also see the return of service between Moncton and Ottawa. Saint John and Fredericton’s respective daily routes to Ottawa will not resume until October 6.
Bernard LeBlanc, President and CEO of the Greater Moncton Roméo LeBlanc International Airport, says he’s looking forward to inviting passengers back to normalcy after Porter stopped service last April.
“We’d normally have Porter, Air Canada, WestJet, Sunwing, Air Transat, and last year we picked up PAL Airlines as well,” he said. “Porter was the only one that hadn’t confirmed when they’d come back or what they’d be coming back with.”
For Moncton, the Porter Airlines schedule is like their pre-pandemic one. There will be one flight to and from Ottawa daily, though LeBlanc notes in busier seasons, Porter usually increases to two flights daily.
“From our side, we’re very much looking forward to having them back in the fall. Winter months are the weaker season, so it’s nice that they’re starting in the fall rather than waiting until next summer’s season.”
Johanne Gallant, President and CEO of the Fredericton International Airport, says this is exciting news for the airport and is eager to give passengers more options for travel once again.
“This is a great service for our community. It’s serving the Ottawa market and also getting you right to downtown Toronto,” she said. “Porter has a great reputation in our market, they, they have a great on-time performance and our passengers love the brand and they love the service.”
Porter flights to the United States will also resume on September 17 with destinations including Boston, Chicago, New York, and Washington.
“This is the moment our team members, passengers and the communities we serve have been waiting for,” said Porter Airlines President and CEO Michael Deluce.
“The pandemic has progressed to the point that we can now begin restoring service across our network, focused around our main base at Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport. Being grounded for more than a year has been incredibly difficult for everyone involved.”
500 employees will be recalled to work with more staff returning as more flights and destinations return to the schedule.
The full schedule of returning flights is available on Porter’s website.
