Finders Fair Will Bring Together Vintage, Antique, Artists, And Artisans
FREDERICTON – Saturday’s Finders Fair will bring together over forty vintage resellers, artisans, and artists at the Charlotte Street Arts Centre.
The event’s organizer, Jacqueline Carr, says the event will be as unique take on a typical market or sale.
“This isn’t an exclusively vintage market,” she said. “People can have other elements that they’re selling. There’s ceramics, there’s jewelry makers, there’s artisan soap, and bath and body makers so it’s not just exclusively vintage and antiques.”
Carr, who is also an artist and is a vintage and antique seller on Instagram as The Periwinkle House, organized a Vintage Spring Fling earlier this year that brought in over 1,000 visitors to the Charlotte Street Arts Centre. For this Saturday’s event, Carr wanted to add elements to take it to the next level.
“I knew while I was planning that event that I wanted to do something bigger, and I had already booked the Charlotte Street Arts Centre for this one,” she said. “I didn’t realize until that event, just how much people were dying to get out.”
Saturday’s event will feature more vendors and additional surprises. Carr will be organizing a “brass wall” to bring brass items together from different antique and vintage sellers into one display.
“They’ll see brass as something more than just a candlestick or more than just a teapot. It’s going to be part of a larger installation,” she said. “In that way, it sort of forces you to look at it more as a piece of art.”
There will be items for sale from vintage and antique sellers from across Southern New Brunswick as well as opportunities for more interactive elements.
“I don’t want to give it all away, but they’ll be there’ll be some things happening where fair-goers can get as Covid-safe dirty as they can and can get their hands into things and they can also see some of the artists creating stuff on the spot,” said Carr.
Carr says she is looking forward to organizing more events like the Finders Fair in the future, but for now, is excited to showcase what she describes as the intersection between vintage and art.
“The concept really revolves around art. How do we intersect these different arts? How do we look at things a little bit differently? How do we create more active consumers? And how do we engage the communities because part of the intersection really is about bridging those gaps and bringing those different artists and artisans together.”
Admission to the event is a suggested $2 donation with all proceeds going to the Charlotte Street Arts Centre. It runs from 9 am to 5 pm on Saturday, June 26.
