Saint John Area Second Cups Will Now Carry Saint John Bakery Goodies
SAINT JOHN — Second Cup locations in greater Saint John will soon be carrying fresh, locally made-baked goods from Saint John Bakery.
Starting June 15, the Second Cup locations uptown, in East Point, and in Quispamsis will start carrying the new products.
Steven Craig, the franchise owner for the three Saint John area Second Cup locations, says they were using another local supplier for the past six or seven years. But when Saint John Bakery owner Stuart Howe opened his first location last year, Craig says he was impressed with what he had to offer.
“We just thought we would change things up a little bit and move in a different direction,” said Craig. “I like what I saw from the Saint John Bakery with Stuart’s products and his pastries and some of the high-end stuff looked really great, so we thought we’d try something new.”
The locations will still carry traditional baked goods like cookies, oatcakes, scones, muffins and croissants, but will have some new addition too.
“We’re going to be featuring a lot more pastries,” says Craig. “There will be danishes and there will be some strudels and he has some different tarts and desserts.”

Locally supplied baked goods are unique to New Brunswick Second Cup franchises. In other parts of Canada, the locations use a national food program.
For Craig, supplying locally is a win-win for everyone.
“It’s nice to keep the product fresh. It’s delivered on a regular basis. It’s baked locally. It’s not frozen, so the product is fresh and the quality of it is much higher,” he says. “And it’s nice to be able to keep the money within the local market and support local businesses.”
