Room To Grow: Join Port Saint John To Learn How Digitalization Of The Port Will Evolve Over The Coming Months
Port Saint John is on the verge of completing its seven-year Modernization Project. The Project will not only see the addition of a new container pier with a longer berth and deeper water, but it will also include a variety of technology and process changes that will improve supply chain efficiency and trade flow.
This topic will be explored On June 8th, when DP World’s Alex Kehoe will join Mark Robbins from Transport Canada’s Innovation Centre, and Craig Estabrooks from Port Saint John to break down how Port partners are coming together to innovate right-sized technology solutions to put data to work and bring cutting-edge technology into its day-to-day operations.
The panel discussion is part of a revamped Port Days, offering attendees a rare peek into the future of the port.
This years’ sessions are free and hosted virtually, which means a series of online events will explore the most exciting developments and pressing questions facing the Port and the city of Saint John.
Paula Copeland, who manages communications at the Port, says the goal this year is to “lift the veil” on the Port and help everyone understand why insiders are so excited about its future.
“The port is something people see every day, and many members of the community have a long history here. But the port has changed a lot over the last 50 years – especially over the last 10. It’s going to change even more in the next couple of years, so we want to give people a sneak peek into what that Port of Future looks like,” she says.

Kehoe and Robbins’ panel will delve into what Copeland calls “the hottest topic in our industry” right now: port digitalization.
“Shippers today, they’re looking for supply chain visibility for their products. Adapting technology to a centuries old industry and traditional processes requires collaborative problem solving,” added Craig Estabrooks, Director, Corporate Services at Port Satin John and data and innovation panel host.
As part of the Modernization Project, Port Saint John is on the verge of adding new “intermodal gates” that will allow the Port to provide exactly that kind of visibility to their clients.
Copeland adds that the gates are the physical infrastructure and just one piece of a larger collaborative port community digitization strategy that will fundamentally change how things are done at the port—the long-term outcome will be improved trade flow and increased visibility for shippers.
She says the June 8th session is the perfect opportunity for people to learn about that change and what it means for them.
