‘Organizing Solutions’ Offers Decluttering Service For Seniors, People On The Move
SAINT JOHN — Tawnya Doucette aims to take the stress out of moving. Her business, TNT Organizing Solutions, offers a pre-move purge and pack, a post-move unpack, and general decluttering.
She started the business a few months ago after finding a need for it in the area.
“A lot of people are focusing on downsizing and organizing their clutter,” said Doucette. “It’s kind of a hot trend to declutter.”
Doucette thinks this has to do with more people working and staying at home during the pandemic. They want to make the most out of their space.
“We’re nonjudgmental,” said Doucette. “Everyone has clutter.”
Doucette said she had one client who came to her overwhelmed with their clutter and unsure of where to start. Within five days they had her garage, storage room, craft room, and shed cleaned out. Doucette said her client couldn’t believe how quick and easy the process was.
Right now, TNT’s main clientele comes from real estate agents.
“People are moving every day right now the market’s so hot,” said Doucette. “There is the largest transfer of population in 42 years in New Brunswick.”
For the pre-move pack, Doucette will set up stations of things to donate and to keep. TNT can also help with unpacking, which is especially useful to people that have to quarantine.
“By the time they get to their home,” said Doucette. “I could have them completely unpacked and set up.”
TNT also caters to seniors who are moving to a new home or retirement facility. Doucette will visit her client’s new place and draw up a floor plan so they can see exactly what they can take and where it will go.
“When they got to their new space it would actually be set up exactly like it was in their previous home, which we find helps seniors a lot because change is difficult,” said Doucette.
Doucette said that it gives them the feeling that not everything has changed. In every move, she focuses on keeping the items that her client loves.
“Because they have let go of all the other clutter in their life,” said Doucette. “They’re able to take those things out and really enjoy them again.”
Sometimes, cleaning out old spaces also will turn things clients forgot they had. They get a chance to reminisces while Doucette gets to know her clients better.
“We start as a client and a business relationship and end almost as friends,” said Doucette.
Doucette said that part of her job is to guide her clients through the emotional process of letting go. She appreciates the trust her clients give her by letting her into their homes, especially during the pandemic.
“It’s really satisfying and gratifying for us to be able to help them with that process,” said Doucette.
