NB365: Dominique Leger Of In Pursuit – A Mobile Boutique
This is part of a year-long ‘Love for Local’ series called NB365: portraits of New Brunswick entrepreneurs, businesses and organizations. Huddle is a media partner with Love for Local. Today, we hear from Dominique Leger of In Pursuit – A Mobile Boutique in Saint John.
At the time I started researching business ideas, I was feeling lost and stuck in a corporate job I hated. I read a passage in a blog post that said something along the lines of, “if you’re taking up space somewhere, it is your obligation to make an impact” and it struck a chord with me.
I decided my purpose during my time in Saint John wasn’t destined to be someone who is miserable and complaining all the time. It was to rediscover my love for the fashion industry, retail and community building and figure out how I could put those things together to create something that would resonate here.
In Pursuit – A Mobile Boutique hit the road officially in October of 2013 and, while we’ve revamped and pivoted more than a couple of times, we definitely haven’t looked back yet! Right now, we’re managing this phase of the pandemic in our brick-and-mortar location that opened in June 2020 at 101 Prince William Street.
The mobile boutique is on pause at the moment while we dream up plans to revamp and get her back on the road in 2022. We have some big ideas but you’ll have to stay tuned to find out!
Local is truly the bread and butter of our communities. Supporting local means your hard-earned dollars are staying right where you spend them: in the local community. It means more vibrancy, more passion, more opportunity. It means appreciating tradespeople, craftsmanship, and quality products.
Supporting local, especially in a small city center, means you probably know the first name of the store owner or the server or the meat cutter. It means building a special relationship that is incomparable to anything a big box can offer you. I’ve also learned that if we don’t continue to support local then local disappears and I for one am not okay with that.
